The ski-doo will run fine, but after 10 minutes or so sometimes loses power and can barely move through the snow although the engine is still running (the engine sounds like its responding to throttle, but is not increasing in power). This is sometimes followed by the engine cutting out after a few minutes. After cutting out it is very very difficult to start and usually needs to be towed. I can't think what the problem might be but any help would be much appreciated.Ski-doo '80 Bombadier (fuel?) problem?
i would say your crank bearings are shot. When it gets worm they tighten up and then you have no powerSki-doo '80 Bombadier (fuel?) problem?
Sounds like a fuel system problem. If fuel was left in the carb for a long period of time, it will cause the carb to be varnished. This will cause passageways to become gummed up and blocked.
Remove the carb, dis-assemble it and thoroughly clean it. Use compressed air to remove any blockages in all passageways. Install new jets, diaphragm and gaskets (should all be in rebuild kit).
Check the fuel lines for any kinks or blockage. Also check the fuel pump impulse line and be sure it is not leaking, causing a vacuum or pressure leak.
Are the clutches in good shape?? Are the springs broken/binding?
