There have been laws made in places that make it illegal to operate on the road. Another case of laws created to prevent stupidity. Some people can't tell stupid unless a law tells them. Like riding a Big Wheel in traffic. Same thing.

As far as I know none of them are "Illegal". they are just not STREET LEGAL. Meaning they can be ridin in parking lost or off main streets. Either way... Walmart sells electric bikes so have fun!Electric Pocket Bikes Illegal?
no "pocket" sized vehicle is street legal. you can purchase them, ride them on tracks, or in parking lots. but none of them can be ridden on streets.



most bikes/mopeds under 250cc are not interstate legal, the 250cc bikes and up are 50state legal to ride anywhere you want.



scooters are street legal, and in some cities you can ride scooters with less than 49cc without a licence (check with yours).
some of the reasons why they are not street legal:

#1 They are not fast enough to go normal speed limits

#2 They lack all the safety requierments such as brakes, turn signals, DOT tires, frames, lights, kill switch and so on.
